What Do You Want to be?
We have the choice to live
I know some people who feel regret about their current life or their current profession. Perhaps, they ask themselves, “What do I want to be?”
Some people are confused about the choice. They don’t know the right direction to the place that they want to. They do something. They work on something, but the whisper in their mind still confront them to move. It seems to change their life path.
The one thing that they don’t give more attention to is the projection of the end of their life. They don’t know what they want.
As Stephen Covey said, “Begin with the end in mind.”
I always remember this quote because it is appropriate for any purpose. Even we can use it in knowing our top career position.
When we know what our top career position, we will find the right path to get there. And also we can choose how do we want to remember. Do you want to be known as an actor? Do you want to be known as an entrepreneur? or what?
I have read about eulogy. It reminds me of the best position in life. We can make it as a foundation of our dream plan. A Eulogy is like a dream of a dream.
When we make a eulogy, we can imagine our life like the jargon YOLO (You Only Live Once). Knowing that we only live once on the earth, we might choose the best position ever.
For example, you are an entrepreneur. Your best position might be when you have hundreds of company branches that develop the social economy. So, you will pursue your life path until you achieve your top career as a top Sociopreneur in the world.
Begin with the end in mind.
How do we know that our choice is best for us?
The simple way is to use four why questions on every choice you make.
For example, your choice is to be a Sociopreneur.
- Why do you choose Sociopreneur?
Answer: Because I want to run a business while helping other people. - Why do you think about helping other people?
Answer: Because it makes me feel useful. - Why do you want to feel useful?
Answer: Because it will benefit me in the afterlife. - Why do you think about that?
Answer: Because it helps me to be safe in there.
By answering the four why questions, you will know the right desire for your choice. If the last answer is what you want, you deserve to choose it.
Then, we can also determine our top position by imitating a role model. Is there someone who inspires you? Who is he/she?
Let’s learn about him. Find out what they do, what they create, or what they achieve. You can achieve it as long as you follow the right path. Sooner or later, you will reach the top position. The cliche key to achieving what you want is to struggle and not give up.
We will know what we want by visualizing the top position. It’s the best position in your career or your entire life. We can think about “begin with the end in mind.” Then ask the four why questions to find out the best choice.
