The Magic of Consistent Actions
“Abrakadabra!”
What do you think about an outstanding result? Is it magically built overnight?
Several weeks ago, my old friend won a BMX competition in Jakarta. He got the first position. I’m surprised. I thought that he didn’t practice BMX seriously anymore. But yeah, he is still a good BMX player.
He deserved to be a winner because he played BMX since he studied at school. He rode a BMX almost every day. Even he and I rode a BMX to school and after school. I saw him when he tried to acquire a difficult trick. I knew, he never gave up easily. He was consistent with the action. That’s why he got a perfect result in the recent competition.
Sometimes we want to achieve something fast. Sometimes we want to get something big in a short time. Sometimes we want to be an expert instantly.
But …
Those are impossible. Except … we have practiced in a long period of time.
As Malcolm Gladwell told us that we need 10.000 hours to become an expert. Thony Robbins told us to do deliberate practice in order to make incremental improvements. And Darren Hardy told us about daily consistency that can make a massive result.
It makes sense.
When we practice one skill, at least, 10.000 hours and try to improve every sub-skills consistently, we will get the perfect results.
What I learn from my friend's story is that we can’t get achievement easily. It is earned by daily hard work and consistency. If we focus on a passionate skill, day by day, it will be easier to acquire.
Where is the magic?
I think you already know the answer.
So, what skill do you want to learn this year?
