The First Step: a simple action that matter
Let me tell you about a simple action that matter.
It is about the first step that will affect our life. We begin something with a first step. The first step that leads us to many destinations. Sometimes we want to achieve something but we are afraid of the unpredictable process. Whereas, we just need ‘the first step’.
Do you want to achieve something? Just take the first step.
I still remember when I was afraid of doing competition. I didn’t know whether I could be a winner or not. I felt hopeless at that time. I also felt anxious. My nervous system didn’t support me. There was no other way, except fighting. But, I thought that I already took the first step. I should be brave. I had passed the first step. Yap. If I could pass the first step, so I could pass the next steps as long as I do my best.
The first step is not enough. We need to execute the next steps as good as possible. The first step is just our starting point. We can measure our progress by comparing the current achievement to the starting point. That’s why we need to start before we achieve.
We should create our future today actively. We have to control our action, our behavior, our attitude consciously. The environment can also affect those things. So, please choose the right environment that can support you every time.
Imagine that you hold a bottle of soft drink on your hand. You don’t know the taste of it but you are really curious. What will you do then? Of course, you have to open the bottle cap first. And then, you can drink the water.
It’s the same as the first step. You won’t realize what will happen until you open the door of opportunity.
For example, if you want to be a professional athlete, I suggest you choose a particular sport and particular club right now. After that, you have to be unstoppable. I mean you have to go extra miles. Make a big target for your career. Become a professional is not easy but it is possible to achieve.
Today is the feedback of our past time. There is no athlete who becomes a champion at a competition because of coincidence, right?
It’s because of the first step. Their effort.
Do you know Bethany Hamilton?
She is an inspiring surfer I’ve ever known. She grew up in Hawaii. She tried surfing when she was a child. Unfortunately, her hand was ever beaten by a shark. Obviously, it’s really painful. I couldn’t imagine If I was in her position. Perhaps, I wouldn’t like the sea and getting trauma. But what inspires me is that she decided to surf again, even though with only one hand. Ya, she took her action, the next first step in an unfortunate condition. FYI, she won first prize in the Explorer Women’s Division of the NSSA National Championships. None of us will witness a bright future when we give up and never try anymore. We need to try a simple action that matter.
Impossible becomes possible when you think you are unstoppable.
No matter if you don’t believe that you can be a winner. You just need to focus on your destination while you enjoy the process. It takes a long period of time to achieve what you want.
Nelson Mandela once said,
“You won’t believe in something until it’s done.”
I want to say congratulation if you already take your first step. Keep going!
