Metaverse: is this our future?
I was interested in the Metaverse topic since Facebook Inc. changed its name to Meta. It made me curious about what Facebook will become with Meta and, of course, the Metaverse.
I had a vision where we could use genius eyeglasses for any purpose in real life. It meant changing the use of a smartphone. I knew there were genius eyeglasses out there, but it’s not enough yet.
Surprisingly, Mark Zuckerberg had almost the same vision as me, but Metaverse used VR eyeglasses, not genius eyeglasses. We used it to access virtual life. It meant we separated from real life.
Mark Zuckerberg once said that we could do anything in Metaverse like playing a game, socializing, meeting, attending an event, and so on.
The questions are:
Do we still be human, even though we interact in virtual life?
Is it good for our mentality? What do you think about it?
What if Metaverse becomes our future where we spend most of the time in virtual life?
So I think there should be a control in accessing Metaverse. And the rules instead. We cannot replace all activities in real life with virtual life. I understand Mark’s vision. He probably wants to make our life easier, like talking to a friend at a long-distance virtually.
On the other side, the smartphone has changed our real life by minimizing the quality of direct socializing. We are distracted by it when talking or gathering with people.
Then VR and Metaverse come. What do you think will happen next?
Okay.
I think you know what the Metaverse is. But, maybe you are still curious about its existence. Ya. It exists. As I know, some people try it and test it. But, you can also find the mini Metaverse on gaming platforms like Sandbox, Fortnite, and Roblox. Those games encourage us to play and interact with other people.
Another thing that makes me interested in Metaverse is the business side. We can buy stuff there like a virtual home, virtual clothes, character skin, etc. Then we can sell it too. It means we can feel the digital asset as the wealth. Sound interesting to you?
However, I don’t one hundred percent agree with the Metaverse. I have the reason why I agree and why I don’t.
- I agree because it can help people in many aspects that I told before. It’s good if we can balance it with real life. It’s good if it can boost our income and productivity.
- And the reason why I don’t is that it will probably harm us as emotional beings. Talking face to face with others in real life is still better in producing oxytocin hormone (the love hormone) than just talking virtually. It means that we can fulfill emotional needs by connecting with people directly.
The bottom line is that Metaverse is just an alternative way. It’s not the priority of life.
Now I realize that there is something more important than living in Metaverse. That is living in Heartverse. We are emotional beings. When we live in Heartverse, I mean using our emotional intelligence optimally. So we can live a better life than yesterday.
To close this writing, I want to give you some advice. Whatever happens with high technology in front of you. I hope you are still a human, emotional being. Don’t let technology becomes a boomerang to you.
So, is this your future? You decide.
