Firstly, I want to tell you about nostalgic moments when I was a kid. It happened in the Ramadhan months. I didn’t know why the Ramadhan in my childhood was memorable and had special meaning.

One day, I went out of the house, and I saw the sky was dark. It was 4.30 a.m, my friend and I should go to a mosque. It was time to pray.

After several minutes, we went home together. But we didn’t go straight home. Sometimes, we continued to play soccer on the street. I knew we were fasting at that time.

I enjoyed the soccer time because finding the street without vehicles was rare. As a kid, it was a priceless thing. I played happily. Laugh after laugh out of the mouth. Sweat after sweat dripped from my skin.

Then, my energy dropped down. It was a signal to stop and go home. To minimize the tiredness, I went to take a bath after drying the sweat. My body felt refreshed. I was no longer thirsty.

There was one other moment during my fasting. It was playing firecracker or firework. I didn’t know why this thing could be a toy when I was a kid. But then I realized it was dangerous to be played by kids.

Those moments are interesting to remember, but I also learn something important during fasting.

As an adult, I learn several things that can help us improve our life. The 30 days of fasting transform us become better humans than ever before. And it’s only once a year.

I learn about triple detox: the detox of mind, soul, and body at a time.

Let me explain it briefly.

The detox of the mind

The research found that fasting boost someone’s mind and creativity.

Mr. Agus Rahmadi, an Indonesian doctor, told us about a researcher who researched the effect of fasting on students’ brain performances. He separated students into two groups to work on an exam. Those are the fasting students and the not-fasting students. The result shows that fasting students get a better average score.

The reason is:

When the stomach is full of food, the circulation of blood vessels will focus on the stomach. That’s why it’s easy to feel sleepy during the exam. Meanwhile, when we are fasting, the blood circulates more in the brain so that the brain performs better.

The detox of the soul

During fasting, we should control our lust and emotion. It affects our emotional control. And when we fast, we remember people who starved.

Not only that. Fasting also affects our mental health. It helps us to lessen depression, stress, or anxiety. Therefore, it will heal a soul or fix a broken soul.

The detox of the body

Fasting is proven to keep our health and detox our bodies.

During fasting, our white blood cell is more active. It means our digestive system focuses more on cleansing toxic in the body.

During fasting, we get energy from glucose in the early hours. Then it is changed by fat in the middle hours. And then, it is switched by protein in the last hours.

We can also maximize the fasting period by doing something creative, learning new things, helping people, or doing sports. Then the detox process will be maximum.

So, fasting has many benefits for us. It’s not only about the part of praying. But, it is also about detoxing our mind, soul, and body. We will feel the optimal benefit when we enjoy the process.

Last but not least, fasting on Ramadhan has a special moment for me. The moments of my childhood memory and the moment of detoxing my mind, soul, and body.

What moment that you miss right now?
