How to Overcome Procrastination and Become Efficient
When is the last time you rush on a deadline?
I once experienced the day when I worked on my task from campus. I remember that the deadline was the next day. I tried to finish it in one day. I spent my entire day just working on it. I felt it was urgent so that I have to finish it. Fortunately, I could focus on the subject more than like before.
Is it a sense of urgency?
I then realized that we could finish something if we put a sense of urgency on what we were doing or what we were pursuing because it could shorten the accomplishment.
I know there is no shortcut. There is no instant result. But when we dedicate ourselves to focus on one subject at a time, we can finish it quickly.
It is related to Parkinson’s law because it encouraged me to finish my task as fast as possible. It is like adding a sense of urgency.
Parkinson’s law is one of the productivity formulas. It teaches us to take advantage of time on our task until we finish it. It encourages us to work efficiently, adding a sense of urgency and preventing procrastination. Because, sometimes, we procrastinate on something, hoping that we can finish it later.
It seems hard to complete the task when we procrastinate, right?
It means we have to do something for our task. We can use Parkinson’s law to achieve something faster.
For example, your lecturer asks you to finish an article next week. You can try to finish it within one day rather than waiting until several days later. It will awaken your potential. The unseen power you have. Like the Kyuubi inside Naruto.
A sense of urgency is not only for the task. We can also apply it to our goal or target. Perhaps, your target is to finish one book per month. But, you can shorten the target to one book per week. It gives you extra time to read more books.
Last but not least, we can finish something slowly or fast. It depends on our effort. If we want to finish it faster, we have to add a sense of urgency so that we will not feel exhausted from procrastination. Then we can be more efficient.
