What do you think about value?

Value is what differentiates between one person and another. A person who has more positive values will be easier to live in society. He has a point plus in people’s eyes. We trust a person who is confident and optimistic rather than those who are unconfident and pessimistic.

You know what, I’ve ever been a pessimist many years ago. It happened when I wanted to live a better life after I failed at one college. I wasted my time with pessimism. It hurt me along the way.

But one day, I decided to jump out of my failure. I tried to try new things. I mean I started my college degree at a new campus. It’s not easy to get back up again after a life crisis.

It brings me to value-mining.

I realized that my value determined my life. When I changed my value, I drastically changed my life.

We can choose a value or the environment chooses it for us.

Let me share how to find your value by using the value-mining technique. It is according to Pivot's book by Jenny Blake. But I make it simpler.

Step 1: Free write

Describe your ideal day. What excites you most? What are you most proud of?

For example,
I am excited about a work-life balance where I can work hard at work and play hard at home. I want to learn something new and make an impact.

Step 2: Value cluster

Make a list of all the keywords from your answer.

For example,
Think creatively, create innovation, make an impact, provide solutions.
Learn anything, teach effectively, serve people.
Play with purpose, connect with people genuinely.
Help orphan, …

Step 3: Narrow down and rename

Rank your top 5 values. It can be your primary value in life. Even you can rename it and group it.

For example,
CHANGE THE WORLD
: Think creatively, create innovation, make an impact, provide solutions.
BUILD QUALITY EDUCATION: Learn anything, teach effectively, serve people.

I dare say that value is important to our life. You can live a better life by choosing some proper values. You can use the value-mining technique that I explained above.

Are you ready to find your value?

It’s your turn. Let’s dig it.
